As a former dweller in Empuriabrava I have much sympathy for the problems property owners are experiencing there. And also if one considers how tiny Castello d'Empurias grows fat on income from Empuriabrava but invests so little in return !

Empuriabrava has grown so very shabby and neglected since I lived there - for one example, the Club Nautico is a disgrace.

I have been pointing out to my Catalan friends that considering the relative size of Castello d'Empurias and Empuriabrava, and the way the administration of Castello thinks of Empuriabrava as only a "Milch-Kuh" surely the time is ripe for Empuriabrava to split off and form its own community with its own town hall.

There are legal precedents for this in Spain. However it is a measure of the power of Castello that "locals" are frightened to even think about doing this.

Surely someone living in Empuriabrava must have the guts to start the ball rolling and split off from Castello ?

Empuriabrava Moorings are still basically in limbo, stuck between the owners and the Government trying to take their property. In September 2600 will be called upon to finalize what part of the Canals and Moorings will be taken and owned by the Government. The same problem is also happening in Santa Margarida, the Mayoress of Roses will be travelling to Madrid to fight on behalf of the town to try and keep the moorings and canals seperate from the Spanish Coastal Law. Snow in Empuriabrava Pictures.

Not for 20 years, has Empuriabrava, had such a downfall of Snow. The whole area has been without power for 24 hours, and many people have been stranded in the snow. Even though the snow was not deep, the speed that it came down was incredible. Their were car abandoned on the bridge before Empuriabrava, and Bus Services were canceled, as workers tried to clear the roads. The local council did a great job of keeping the roads clear, and their was a strong presence of Police. According to The Telegraph , 200,000 people in Girona were without power. Around 165,000 pupils were not at school on Tuesday, as the snow continued to fall. The worst hit areas were closer to the French Border, where nearly 500 mm of snow fell, stranding people on Trains.
