Empuriabrava Now: Exploring the Coastal Gem and Canal Wonderland

On Saturday 27th of September, the residents of Empuriabrava took to the streets of Castello in protest ver the proposed plans for the canals and land that the Spanish Government is trying to take back. A body was found on Monday (September 8th) morning in the Illa Cartago Canal in Empuriabrava. Early reports suggest that their are no suspicious circumstances over the death of what is thought to be a young man. No one has been reported missing at this time, so no more information is being given at this time. More information will be posted here when it is given.

On the front line of Empuriabrava, the most northern beach was turned into what can be only described as a motorhome park. With around 20 - 30 motorhomes parked in front of the properties, it has now been sloved with a height restriction bar and a new roundabout. For anyone living on that side of the canal and especially on the sea front, it must have been a nightmare. Having seen the rubbish and dirt they left behind myself, and also wondering where they were emptying their toilets, it is a good thing what the council has done. The council has mentioned building a proper area for the campervans and caravans etc. The area for the building is not known, so this can only be described as an idea at the moment.

Empuriabrava's holiday season has now come to an end. With the school children all back to school within the next couple of weeks, it's now that time of year when the town can get back to it's normal self. Living here in Empuriabrava all year round makes this time of year, especially September one of the most enjoyable months. With the weather at it's best, not too hot but just hot enough, and all the facilities still open, residents can now take full advantage of this nice time. Before we know it, it will be Christmas with lots of leaving to go to England or other countries to spend time with out families. Before we know it, Summer 2009 will be creeping up on us, and we will have to go through, long queues in the supermarkets, banks closed on Saturdays and the bumper to bumper traffic most of us have to endure. Summer 2009 only 10 months to go.

I have taken this from the Cap de Creus Online website, this is for anyone who has a private mooring in Empuriabrava, please read. "Members of the district council of Castelló d'Empúries and the central government will meet on the 4 September, to review the conflict of the moorings in the channels of Empuriabrava. The community of the owners have asked the town hall to allow one of their lawyers to attend the meeting" "The city hall of Castelló d'Empúries and the concessionaire of the channels of Empuriabrava agreed on the statutes for the new owner community of the owners of moorings. In the budgets of 2009 to 2013 are important issues including the renovation of the footbridges over the channels. Anyone interested should go to the civic centre to learn about the changes. The man known as Dr Death or the French Ripper has been arrested here in Empuriabrava after vanishing from his home in Marseilles France. He did not show up for his court apperance last year and went on the run. If found guilty, Michel Maure faces a four year custodial sentance and a fine up to €75.000. Maure, who conducted plastic surgery in unhygienic conditions, used out of date medical supplies left 96 women with, infected scars, misplaced breast implants and disfigured lips.
